Caol Ila

Coal Ila derived from Gaelic for "sound of islay" in reference to the location of the distillery.

Founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, in 1854 the Isle of Jura took over the ownership of Caol Ila.

After being owned by multiple owners and other distillery owners the distillery was demolished in 1972.

Production resumed in 1974 after building a larger distillery.

Currently a part of Diageo.
